It was painfully obvious to any onlookers that Mori Kazuki did not like the Sports Festival. To him, sports were a waste of time outside of strengthening one's own body, and the triviality of such a large event had him bored out of his mind. He was fit enough to run and strong enough to lift heavy objects, but the sheer effort of chasing each other around an open field with plastic was not worth his time. He could be studying right now or helping those in need of assistance. Even helping old grandmothers cross the street would be more interesting than watching yet another weak classmate of his fall on their face and sprain their who-knows-what. Sighing louder than he should of liked, he turned away from the scene and headed towards the much less populated sidelines. The bleachers were too noisy for someone like him and there was only so much he could take before he grew sick and tired of it all.
In truth, he'd spent the majority of the Sports Festival doing exactly what he did best - tracking down and breaking these ridiculous X-eggs. He still didn't understand anything about them outside of how they were formed and how they were fixed. He wanted answers and research, but every time he came close to having one subdued in his hands the cracked shells flew away, disappearing into the air as if they never existed. It was driving his research into the ground and for once he wanted to find an egg attached to another person. Maybe if he was able to question an individual with an X-egg he'd be able to better understand them. After all, the stupid black sprites could barely speak more than a few discouraging words.
It wasn't until he was quite far away from the main crowds that he felt it. It was a new sensation, one he had people explain to him so that he wouldn't lose his mind over it. Just like his supposed sixth sense he'd received from his parents, he'd somehow developed a new 'egg' sense. It tugged at his mind and when there were too many Hearts Eggs around he actually developed a serious headache. Trying to feel the spirits of the dead and the sprites of people's wishes was tiring, but this one left him wandering closer and closer to the source.
He was almost positive he'd gotten all the X-eggs that didn't bother hiding from him so where was this new one coming from? Clutching his head, he stumbled away from the fields and towards a mysterious figure in the distance. Beside the strange boy was another of those black eggs, though this one remained untouched by him. Well, he'd change that soon enough.
