The moment the school bell rang, the freckled boy immediately jumped up from his seat, tossing all of his stationary and books into it in a haphazard manner. Really he rarely was in a hurry - well except for getting out of the classroom that is - but this time things were different! He was going to drop off some notes at Sayuri's house! And that certainly warrants a speedy delivery!

Though he and Sayuri were in different classes, he had heard that the girl hadn't been coming to school over the past few days. He had become concerned - especially after he remembered how distressed she was over the West Oto incident - and had been pondering if he should ask how she was doing. But then he suddenly had the most brilliant idea!! Maybe he could help bring her notes from class, and surprise her a little! Yeah! That was what friends do after all! So after packing extra material into his bag, he quickly set off from school.

But he suddenly stopped in his tracks.

He hadn't a clue where Sayuri actually lived.

Quickly he pulled out his phone. If he didn't know, all he needed to do was ask! His fingers tapped onto the phone, typing out a short message. hey!! it read. i heard u were sick so i took notes for u!!! i dont know where u live tho can i have address??? There! That should do it. Now to wait for Sayuri's reply.

It was an unfortunate case of bad luck that her flare ups still happened so regularly. Despite a careful diet and her parents constant nagging, Sayuri was an easy target whenever she exerted herself. Her symptoms weren't always terrible - at worst, she was often left with some stiffness in her lower body and slight swelling of her knees and ankles. It was unsightly in her own opinion but manageable.

Today she was unlucky enough to get the full slew of it all. Blurry vision, a terrible fever, and annoying light sensitivity were the worst of the problems she suffered from as she laid in bed. Her parents had taken her temperature only a few days prior and had immediately sent her straight back to her room, blocking the exit to keep her from sneaking out. Now she sat up in bed, exchanging the rag to cool herself down as she scrolled through her phone. A few of her classmates were asking where she was, commenting on twitter but otherwise keeping to herself. Sighing, she nearly turned t off when she felt the buzz of a text coming through.

hey!!  i heard u were sick so i took notes for u!!!  i dont know where u live tho can i have the address???

Mitsuo had taken notes for her? That was... nice of him actually. She couldn't remember the last time someone had taken notes. Then again, she couldn't remember the last time she'd been in school long enough to actually make any friends.

Opening up the map app on her phone, she sent him a quick screenshot of the route from school along with the house number, leaning back in her pillows for only a few minutes before rolling over. Well, if he was going to come to her house she might as well greet him. Wrapping herself in a thick blanket, she grabbed the crutch off to the side and slowly walked towards her door, squinting as she opened her room to the much brighter hallway.

Humming to himself as he browse through idly through Youtube, he waited as he leaned against the wall for Sayuri's answer. He was just about to tap onto one of the funny videos about cats (there seemed to be a bizarre number of them, but hey he didn't care! More free cute cat videos for him to consume!) when his phone suddenly pinged - he glanced quickly at the gray notification, only for him to gasp and immediately tapping onto it eagerly. That was quick! Scanning the photo, he nodded to himself with a smile before he glanced left and right, flitting his gaze back to the phone as he double-checked the route with the screenshot he received.

He hummed to himself again as he walked, glancing left and right - and taking the wrong turn at one point, but no matter! - before he finally arrived at the destination on the map. Glancing back to the phone and up again, he was about to ring the doorbell - until he realised that maybe it was better for them to send a message to Sayuri. Just in case it wasn't actually her house.

Pulling out his phone, he typed a quick message to let her know that he was right in front of her home. hey!!!! im right outside now!! it read, though he internally hoped that it really was her house.

Sayuri managed to reach the door just as her phone buzzed, a tiny signal that her classmate had arrived. With as much strength as she could muster she pulled open the heavy wooden doors, allowing for the dark interior of the house to spill out into the day and the fresh air to come in. She leaned against the door once she had a moment and smiled at the other. Her crutch was peeking out of the blanket draped around her but otherwise she looked like any other person with a cold. Her cheeks were blotchy and her hair was sticking to her forehead with sweat, but as she smiled at the other the sunshine that was the second year cracked through.

"Mitsuo," She said, greeting the other before ushering him inside, "Come in, come in. You don't need to stand out there, it's far too cold. I've got some tea upstairs. Oh, you can keep your shoes on as well."

The interior of the house was much more impressive than what could be seen from outside. The architecture was western, remnants of the Meiji-era showing here and there under newly bought furniture. The staircase off to the side led up to another set of floors, but aside from the sound of voices down the hall there was no noise. The rugs below them muffled the better part of their footsteps, and once the door behind Mitsuo closed the room warmed considerably.

"Sorry for the mess, I haven't really washed up yet today," Sayuri pulled a loose strand of hair behind her ear, motioning towards the staircase with a slow swing of her arm, "This place is kind of far, you're too nice to be bringing my work all the way out here. I could have picked it up when I was back in class."

Mitsuo rocked on the balls of his feet as he waited, with his hands in his pockets and humming a tune. It seemed it was a habit of his, to simply hum whatever catchy song that was on his mind whenever he was waiting for something. The moment he heard the door open however, he immediately perked up the moment he saw Sayuri and he gave a grand wave. "Hi Sayuri!!" he said, flashing her a wide grin. But he suddenly stopped, finally noticing how sick she looked. "Oh man, are you okay?" he asked, walking inside the house as he looked at her with a concerned expression. He knew she was ill, but he hadn't realised how sick she really was. "Should you be walking out like that?"

As he entered the house, he took a quick glance around, before going 'wow!'. "Your house is way cool!" he said, turning towards Sayuri with a little sparkle in his eyes. Though he wasn't as interested in architecture as he was with food, it didn't mean he couldn't appreciate a nice house when he stepped into one. "I've never been in a house like this before!" he said, looking all around with curiosity in his eyes.

But as she spoke however, he turned towards her before shaking his head. "No no, don't apologise for that!" he quickly said, raising his hands to wave it off dismissively. "I'm just worried because you don't really look that good," he said, a worried tone in his voice. As she commented on the distance of her house however, he simply laughed, before placing his hands on his hips with a bright smile. "It wasn't that far! Besides, I hadn't been in this part of town before, so I found lots of new things on the way here! Like all the new restaurants and cafes I could eat!" His eyes sparkled with excitement, a wide grin on his face - before he realised that he probably was being a little rude. Sayuri was sick!

He waved his hands dismissively again at her comment. "No no, it's no big deal! Like I said, I haven't been to this part of Otonoki before, so it's all good!" He laughed a little as he began to walk up the stairs when she gestured towards it. "And besides, I get to see your awesome house, so it's just as good as compensation!" He laughed once again.

He patted his bag. "Your notes are in here!" he said, giving her a grin. Briefly, he wondered about the little egg that he had stashed away at the back of his bag. He had started to bring it with him since the day he talked to Kirishigi-sensei about it. For some reason, the teacher had made them sound so...magical. And for some reason, he couldn't help but feel like it was like a magic charm. Even though he had no reason to think that way but it was a nice thought. And so he brought it along with him nowadays.
