The Tanabata Festival had been one he'd gone to every year ever since he was little. As always, he came with his family, and he'd enjoyed some of it with them, and some of it with his friends. As of right now, though, he was alone. Still full from all the festival food, he wanted to walk it all off for a bit when he passed by the famous wishing tree. For a couple of years, he hadn't written a wish on the tree, simply because he'd gotten distracted by a game or something else. But recently, he had so many conflicting feelings over the events of the last few weeks that he wanted to wish for so many things. But could it all fit in one little paper? And could they even come true?
He got closer to the tree. Many other people, some in street clothes, some in yukata like himself, were making wishes. It looked like they just started, as the branches were still rather bare.
"Whooa! Yukiya-dono! What's going on? asked Kanpa. He'd been asking Yuki about this and that thing and Yuki was kind of tired of it. But Kanpa looked at him with these big puppy eyes....and it just hurt to ignore him...especially when he would annoy him later about other things, like writing his manga for the 5000th time...
"It's just a tradition of the festival. You write what you wanna wish for and hang it on the tree. People choose this tree in particular because they say its a special wishing tree that makes dreams come true, even when it's not Tanabata."
"Ah! So that means if I write on the paper saying 'please make Yukiya-dono continue my awesome story for the people of this world to enjoy' it should come true! Let me get a --"
Yuki pinched the back of Kanpa's shirt to stop him from flying around. "Don't do that. People will be wondering why there's a pen flying in mid air."
"Then I guess you'll have to write it for me. But you know, I kind of just wish you'd finally do it. You want to, don't you?"
Normally Yuki would disagree, but the recent Faberge concerts where he had unexpectedly performed on stage - twice - had made him think about it. To be admired again, to share his work again, to feel proud of what he had created...the desire gripped his heart, distracting him from the complications he had been having with other friends, and even this morning he found himself drawing Kanpa holding his beloved broadsword.
Ah, what was he thinking. He'd never amount to anything, not like before.
"Oh! Look, it's Calli!" Kanpa shouted, buzzing away from him. Wait, if Calli was nearby, then Yasuko...not that he hated Yasuko but for some reason events with her ended up in him hurting himself. And they were usually his fault. But Kanpa and Calli got along well apparently so he just tiptoed away from the guardian characters and towards the tree, hoping Kanpa wouldn't notice him gone.
