How could someone who utterly lacks all passion even have such a drive to destroy?

Without thinking, Miuna had ended up back in the place that started this whole mess.  The infirmary was empty at this time of day, most kids in class or at lunch.  Only a single girl remained sleeping in the far corner of the room and she was one the student refused to go near.  She'd already left her with more supplies and flowers for when she eventually woke up, the braided student didn't need to interact with her anymore.  The West Otonoki child was a victim and a reminder of what could have happened in this very room only a week before. 

God, the week before.... that had been a complete mess.  She didn't understand why that guy had come to their school again, why he'd insisted on meeting with Kirishigi.  He didn't want to steal the planetarium nerd away or anything so what was his deal?  He had threatened them, attacked them, then just left.  Miuna didn't understand.  She wanted to believe that this was all just a big misunderstanding and they'd stay away from Seiyo, but she'd noticed more and more pierced ears in downtown Otonoki. 

What did these people want?  What were they here for?  Weren't there enough eggs in West Otonoki for them to break?  These questions haunted Miuna, and the more she thought about it the more she found herself confused.

How were any of them supposed to stop the Egg Hunters?

Ji-Yoo had promised herself never to step in that infirmary room again. Not even if she was hurt and absolutely needed it. Just no. It was a constant reminder of her cowardice and selfishness. She so desperately wanted to protect herself that she had been willing to let others get hurt instead of her. The first year generally had no problem when it came to catering for her own needs. She usually couldn’t care less about what other people thought or did. But this altogether, was a completely different matter. It was a life or death situation, something she’s not had to face before. Her chickening out and letting other people do the dirty job… was it really the right thing?

There was nobody she could rely on. Nobody she could ask for advice or at least talk to. Well, there was Demi, but although the two had similar personalities, calling her a friend would probably be a bit far-fetched. Why was it so terribly hard for her to trust others? Ji-Yoo let out a sigh right as she found herself in the place she dreaded the most: The infirmary. Well, there should be nobody around, so if she just took a peek inside… that student from West Oto should still be there. If she decided to fight against the egg breakers, she might end up like her. But then again, if she didn’t, she might have that awful feeling of guilt stuck with her for the rest of her days.

Huh, there was somebody else in there? Ji-Yoo gasped.

Miuna had been so wrapped up in her thoughts that she hadn't even noticed the other girl enter the room. It wasn't until she heard a gasp behind her that she realized someone else was there. She whipped around, hoping to god it wasn't Kirishigi or the nurse. She had a bit of a reputation of coming in with slight burn marks and bruises from trying to set fire to the surrounding buildings and trees. She wasn't a pyro, she just had various ways of expressing her emotions! Like a true artist should!

It wasn't either adults though, leaving Miuna to come face to face with that strange girl from the infirmary the other day. Wasn't she in one of her classes or something? Maybe PE, where all the grades were bunched up together? Either way her presence startled Miuna, the girl taking a quick step back as she left a quiet "oh" escape.

"The nurse is out right now," Miuna said, shifting around uncomfortably. She had been a bit of a mess that day during the fight and she was sure the other had seen it. To say she was slightly tilted was a complete understatement. That day had been a complete disaster with how things had ended up. She was a bit disappointed that the others hadn't been able to handle a single guy while she protected Yasuko, but she didn't dare voice that opinion out loud. She had a bad feeling it might earn her more fights with her closest friends. "Is there... something I can help you with? Are you feeling sick at all?"

She and her stupid mouth. Yeah, the infirmary being empty would’ve been way too lucky. Instead this girl was here, whom Ji-Yoo had seen around a few times. And most of all, she had been there on that day. The first year vaguely remembered seeing her character transform, and then there was all that pokemon nonsense –which seriously made her cringe-. Then, when the serious fight broke out, Ji-Yoo ran away so there wasn’t much else she could recall.

“Erm, no thanks.” Ji-Yoo had no idea why she was there in the first place. She nervously shifted her weight from one leg to another, while glancing at the West Oto girl from the corner of her eye. Maybe guilt had driven her here. Or something of that sort. She wondered whether she should leave, seeing as the girl was someone she wasn’t acquainted with and, probably even if she had been, Ji-Yoo was too uneasy about the past day to strike up any kind of conversation.

God this was so awkward. Even though the girl was in her year the two had barely exchanged words. Miuna wasn't really one to talk to people outside of their little 'egg group' but now it seemed this classmate of hers had joined them. Rubbing at her arm, she followed the girl's glance to Kokori laying in the bed. She must have come here thinking the same as her. This was the scene of the crime after all, and there were only so many other places on campus to run to.

"She'll.... she'll be okay," Miuna said, attempting to offer some sort of optimism in this time of fear and sadness. It wasn't usually like this, usually school calmed down for a short period of time. These problems just followed one after another though, a mysterious villain working behind the scenes to ruin all their lives. Miuna wanted to turn away from it all and just run. "It'll take some time but she'll just... move on. Not that we should consider that an option but.... well, it'll work out for her somehow. Kirishigi is watching over her, and it seems he's got some connections to those egg hunters. A bit weird if you ask me, but what do I know."

The atmosphere was indeed really awkward. Out of all people she could have run into, Ji-Yoo hoped it wouldn’t be any of the students who went against the egg breaker the other day. Frankly, she was scared. Scared that they would accuse her of fleeing, of leaving them to deal with everything. She didn’t know any of them by name, but it wasn’t like all students had a heart’s egg and there weren’t many at the scene anyway.

“You say that but you don’t look like you really believe it.” Leaving her own condition aside, the other girl didn’t seem to be in a good mood. No wonder, so many things have happened lately, and considering that she was here, it must’ve taken a toll on her, as it did on Ji-Yoo. “And I don’t believe it either. Tragedies happen all the time and naturally, there’ll be victims. This time so happened that it would be this girl. She won’t /really/ be fine, although I’m not very experienced with this whole egg stuff, I know enough to say so.”

And not everything revolved around this girl anyways. The egg breakers were still out there, destroying many other people’s hearts. They still had to be stopped, but seeing how one single guy could cause so much trouble, fighting them and succeeding would be close to impossible. What was the deal with them anyway? What caused them to do what they are doing? “I just don’t understand why all of this started in the first place. Those people… who’s behind them anyway?”

Miuna just shifted uncomfortably. She wasn't particularly close to this girl (though passing glances and quiet interest had spurred her to watch the other first year just as she did all those in her grade) but the fact that they had met at such an inopportune moment made everything so much worse. How was she supposed to react in a situation like this? She didn't know what would happen to the girl, she didn't know if her egg would return. There had been so many hidden truths and lies through around by the faction leaders that no one really knew what was happening.

"I...." She tried to start, her words caught in her throat as they fell apart and disappeared. What was the right thing to say? "I... No, you're right. She probably won't be fine. Not for a long while at least. Whatever happened to her is permanent unless we can find some sort of solution."

Miuna rubbed at the spot between her eyes, looking towards the window. "I don't really think anyone knows what's going on. I mean, there were always X-eggs and X-characters but never this. This sort of an attack of this scale... it seems only the faction leaders know about it. There's egg breakers and delinquents on campus but I don't ever see both aspects in a single person, and no one has ever ended up like this from Seiyo, and it's all just getting so confusing I just--" She cut herself off, realizing she was rambling to this poor girl. What a great first impression she was making. "Whoever they are, it all seems to originate from West Otonoki."

Why did things have to be so complicated? Ji-Yoo was just a first year and she had little to no experience with x-eegs. If she had known that there would be so much drama, she wouldn’t have come to Seiyo in the first place. Should she join this fruitless egg fight and risk getting hurt? Or transfer schools? The last option wasn’t really viable since she started to actually get attached to some people, or at least so she thought. Starting again from scratch would be too painful. Maybe almost as painful as having her own heart broken.

It was funny how other students seemed to be so familiar with x-related things and fought and cured eggs like it was some sort of daily routine. If she let some more time pass by and just rolled with it, would it become the same for her? Would she finally be okay with engaging in dangerous situations? Would she become strong enough to defend herself? Ji-Yoo briefly closed her eyes and let out a sigh, contemplating her options. None seemed quite to her liking, but as the saying goes: Normality is a paved road, but no flowers grow.

“Do you think the faction leaders know more than they’re letting on?” Ji-Yoo had been curious about this ever since she secretly broke into the Planetarium to look for secrets, but she didn’t end up finding anything of interest. Except for that earring, which she had, in fact, stolen. Wasn’t it something that the egg-breakers had? Then why did Kirishigi-sensei have them? Was he their boss? It seemed quite hard to believe, giving that he seemed like such a gentle person. Ji-Yoo kept telling herself not to trust people based on how they look, because they might have hidden reasons.

She also found evidence that the three faction leaders knew each other, but that wasn’t too much of a surprise and couldn’t prove anything. “Perhaps they lack something in West Oto that we have. Maybe that’s also the reason why they started ganging up on our students, who knows.” At this point, Ji-Yoo wished there was someone who could give her answers. It seemed like she was just going around in circles with her deductions and not making any progress.

Miuna bit her lip at this, tugging on it with her top teeth as she struggled to give the other girl a proper answer. They had, after all, been struggling to come to terms with this difficult truth since the very beginning. They'd wanted to turn a blind eye to many of the happenings of the factions. Since early on they'd been suspecting that things were hidden from them. They'd joined under the sheer assumption that things would eventually be explained and they'd gain the trust of their mentors.

It had been months since that point. They were on the edge of war with an enemy school that they knew little to nothing about. There was a history that many of the teachers were trying to avoid, and even worse there were unexpected casualties of this fighting. To admit that they were at a loss after so long, and over such petty squabbling with the X-eggs...

What had they truly accomplished? All this fighting against X-energy and it didn't even matter. The real threat were the people around them.

"Kirishigi is.... strange," Miuna offered as best she could, thinking back to the conversations she'd had with him. She'd barely ever talked to Ohno outside of a few minor arguments, and of course Sasaki-san was too important to ever ask. Kirishigi was free game though, and up until quite recently he'd been incredibly mysterious. "But the other two are honest enough. They want what's best, I just don't know if it's what's best for us or best for them. At the very least they've been honest about X-eggs."

"But they also hurt their own students," the girl then replied, tapping a finger against her arm as she crossed them, "I feel like there's something more to it. There's someone behind the scenes pulling all the strings, and the students are just the unlucky victims. I mean, there are a lot of egg breakers at Seiyo too but they don't hold the same level of vengeance as the West Oto kids. It's almost as if they're some crazy egg breaking cult. If we figured out the source, then maybe we could stop it all completely."
