The cherry blossom festival, or whatever it was called, brought nothing but bad memories back to Takeo, memories related to his deplorable luck in the love department, of course.
Since he had memory of being a little man, around ten years ago or so, Takeo had been infatuated with a particular but unlikely girl, his childhood friend and next door neighbor. Keiko Mori was her name, a girl around one year older than him but who, for as long as he remembered, had stolen his innocent heart.
However, Keiko wasnt a gold coin to be liked by everyone. There were only so many things that the people found likable about her: she was narcissistic and authoritarian, as if the whole world revolved around her finger. But on the inside, Takeo knew that she only wanted to be appreciated, admire. A girl who grew up by his side, who demanded that the entire population of the world kissed the soil where her shoes stepped on. And Takeo would do it, for her; if he weren't rebellious by nature, there were only so many things he wasn't willing to do for her sake. Surely, there had to be something good about her, no matter how bad she may treat others at times. He found something charming about the way she expected everyone to give her attention, to treat her like a princess, or rather, an unyielding queen; he ought to do it at times, too, when she visited the Matsuo dojo, to hang out with her best friend; his cousin. Takeo would go as far as to keep playing pretend after all these years, at moments in which he was the father and she was the mother of the house, with his cousin Rie being their little child. Brief moments in which he felt a close connection that, in reality, would never go as far and deep as his desires wished. Keiko Mori would never like Takeo Matsuo as a long lasting partner. He was sure about this.
Therefore, Takeo decided to continue his forced love quest: taking out yet another girl to remove the nail on his heart. Selfish and pretentious, but he couldn't think about anything else, but to get over his petty feelings with a radical change. Fortunately for him, his idol classmate, Mia Dhar, accepted his invitation for a date, to watch the cherry blossoms together. Maybe, maybe he felt bad for the girl, but he should know that who really felt pity here, was the girl in question, for him.
Mia arrived to the park by her father's side. A very protective man who could not fathom the HORRIBLE TRAGEDY of his precious little girl having a date, with A BOY... UNACCEPTABLE!! HE WAS HEART BROKEN!!! DEVASTATED TRAGICALLY!! Mia should not go on dates until after he is dead, no one should corrupt the pure heart of his little princess...!
But he had to let her go, return to the car and pick her up later, in a few hours. That was the deal they made, her mother, her father, and herself.
Dressed with a knit sweater and a long skirt, Mia greeted her classmate with a small bow, and a wave of her hand.
"Takeo kun! Hi! I didn't mean to keep you waiting, but daddy didn't want to bring me here at all, heh. You haven't waited too much, have you?" She was so carefree, a real free spirit; albeit too sheltered for Takeo's taste. He wished to have met her in a different moment of his life.
The young man had nothing prepared for their pseudo date, though; there was a blanket under the cherry tree, his backpack on a corner, a bag with mc donalds, and that was it. He had no idea on how to impress a rich girl, the kind to have it all. But he invited her to take a seat, nonetheless, and she obliged with a little laugh here and there.
"Sorry, uh... You're not going to eat fast food... I forgot. You're a 'lady' and all that shit. I bet you eat, like, shark fin soup and sashimi everyday. My bad, my bad." It was half a joke, and half everything he meant to ever tell her, and Mia knew it. She laughed about it.
"Hah hah, awn, you didn't need to!" With an ironic emphasis on the need. "I won't get a tummy ache from fast food, don't worry so much. Oh, you're such a gentleman, Takeo kun." If he was going to be ironic for the sake of chuckles, so would she.
Takeo sat closer to the other student, jokingly pushing and nudging her in the shoulder "Oh, I aim to please, Madame, queen, princess, whatever you are..." He resorted to tackle her down, but not as much as to pin her down. They both had the same eye color.
Amidst the silence, and the cherry tree petals flying, there was a kiss between the two students. It was Mia's first one, although not the ideal, or too special, it had become meaningful. For a bad reason.
"What was that for?" The girl fixed her glasses, laying now on her side. She couldn't deal with looking directly at her classmate now. "I know you like someone else, please don't do that again." But it wasn't as if she liked Takeo at all. Mia felt a great pity for her friend, she knew what he was into, from the very moment when he asked her out. "That was my first kiss, by the way..."
Takeo was unable to look at Mia for hours, and when he had the guts to look back and apologize, Mia's dad had called her already. To have thought of her with such I'll intentions, and that she knew exactly what he was going after, revolted his stomach.
"I'm sorry"
But he didn't receive a response to that. Classes would be awkward from now on.
