The skater girl patted her pockets. And patted them again. And again. 

She'd forgotten her purse. It was...she let out a small huff. Maybe she'd put it in her bag? She pulled said backpack off of her shoulders - sending the people stood in the line around her an apologetic look or at least, the best kind that she could. She rifled through her stuff and let out another quiet sigh as she realized it wasn't there either.

"Minji?" Vaiis quiet voice piped up, her expression concerned as Minji had to step out of the line, zipping up her bag quickly. She'd started doing it more and more lately - forgetting her purse that is - and she didn't really know how she'd forgotten it so much in the past few months. She was half sure it was Paii nicking it out of her bag and pockets when she wasn't looking. Which she really should have been looking out for a little more - but as it was she hadn't taken her own advice. "Did Paii take it?" Vaii was obviously on the same wavelength. 

She was - mostly okay with the whole issue. Sure she was very hungry and she should really have just headed back to the dorms to actually get her purse back but she was just - well she wasn't sure that Paii wouldn't have hidden it away and she was half sure that it would have taken the whole break to get there and back and find it anyway. 

Minji rolled her eyes at herself - not actually replying to Vaii and she slipped into a random chair, not paying any attention to who she was sitting with and rested her chin in her hand, it would be fine - she might find it a little more difficult to concentrate in lessons later in the day but it wouldn't be too bad. She could deal.


Mitsuo Takahashi

[Mitsuo Takahashi]

Mitsuo simply couldn't wait for the lunch bell to ring.

Well, to be honest, he was always waiting for the lunch bell to ring, so it technically wasn't anything new - but today was rather special! His mom made him a large helping of pork cutlets for his bento box! Though truth to be told, he loved everything she made, be it noodles or pasta or meat or rice or sushi or whatever else, but he loved anything to do with pork. Or even beef for that matter. He absolutely loved gyudon. Or you know, even katsudon sounded really appetising!

Okay, he really needed to stop daydreaming now.

The moment the high-pitched ring resounded all over the school, Mitsuo quickly packed all of his books and stationary - in a rather haphazard way, so to speak - before pulling out his lunch box. Grabbing the lid, he pulled it off with much gusto and was about to dig in; before he realised that it was missing something. There usually was a small bottle of soy sauce in one corner of his lunch box, where his mom liked to pack in just in case Mitsuo would like something extra. Except...it was missing today. Oh man. Did his mom forgot to put it in? Staring at his bento box, he frowned in a bit of a disappointed manner, before deciding that he should go to the cafeteria to see if they had any soy sauce. Sounded simple, wasn't it?

But when he came down to the cafeteria, he couldn't help but become thoroughly enticed by the foods out there, totally forgetting his original aim of coming here. Bread! Rice! Noodles! Sets! And all the delicious aroma wafting in and out of the whole place; goddamn all of them smelled so good. But a large silver pot at the middle of the cafeteria, the cook stirring its contents with a large wooden ladle, completely caught his eye - and he almost salivated at the sight of what they they were serving. Chicken Curry! The glistening dark-coloured chicken curry, stewed potatoes and carrots within it, plated right on top of hot steamed rice!

He bought it without a moment's hesitation.

As he sat down at an empty spot on the table, he stared down at the food in front of him. His mother's packed bento, with her delicious pork cutlets, tamagoyaki, salad and fruits, with the plate of hot curry rice right next to it, completed with its own miso soup. And somehow, a long the way, he ended up buying some tempura and even a cream bun. This...was perhaps a little too much. Could he finish it? He shook his head, readying his chopsticks. He could handle it! After all, he bought that with his own money, and he will have to eat his mistakes!

But before he could dig in, the sound of a chair legs scrapping across the food rang in his ear - and he stopped, turning around.

It was a girl, whom he hadn't seen before, that had taken up the seat just beside him. "Um..." he started, looking at the girl next to him. The two pins on her sweater caught his eye, and he stared, blinking. Normally, he would be rather excited by a second-year - after all, that could mean that they could be potential friends! - but he was a little confused by why the girl sat next to him. He hadn't made any friends yet in his year, so it was strange to see an unknown second-year take the seat right next to him. But he soon noticed her lack of food on the table, and he stared once again, confused. "Um...are you eating anything?" he asked, genuinely thinking that she was perhaps waiting for another to bring her food.

Minji blinked a little - her head tilting - her usual non-reaction. "Oh man - sorry I didn't -" She really hadn't been paying any kind of attention to where she'd been sitting. She felt a little bad - obviously she'd startled or at least surprised the boy. She turned her eyes to him fully - noting the two pins on him as well. Ah - she didn't think she'd ever met him before. But she supposed she didn't pay all that much attention to those around her until they actually did have some kind of conversation. 
"Sorry I'll -" She was going to say move until he spoke again.

"Oh uh, no." The girl shook her head a little. She glanced down to the table - which she hadn't even glanced at before she'd placed herself at it. There - he was eating a lot. She'd always been told boys tended to eat a lot more than girls and although she really didn't believe that, considering how much she could eat, it seemed like that might be something that the boy (or at least his family) sat beside her might believe. She turned her eyes away from his lunch - not wanting it to seem like she was staring it down before she spoke again. "Forgot it so -" She didn't want him to be thinking at she'd sat next to him because she'd seen the amount of food he'd got in front of him, so she found herself starting to stand. 

Minji did not scrounge for food. It was not something she could bring herself to do - no matter how hungry she actually was. "I'm sorry for interrupting you. I'll move." She didn't want to seem rude at all not to somebody that she didn't actually know so she didn't really think it would be okay for her to just keep sitting there. 

Even if the food did smell great.

And it really did. 

The lunchbox made it very obvious that that part of it was homemade - something she'd never had herself. When she'd actually been living at home the last year, she'd been the kind to go and buy convenience store lunches. They were cheaper and her home wasn't really all that stocked up on all the stuff she might need to make a decent lunch for herself.
Sure she bought from school most of the time now - even though she could have gone ahead and made her own food at this point in her life - but it was just easier for her. Making her own food, unless it was something spicy usually ended badly - with everything either burn or...just becoming spicy, even when it wasn't meant to be. 

[Mitsuo Takahashi]

Mitsuo stared at the girl in a slightly concerned manner. Was she okay? Did she just accidentally sat there without knowing who was next to her? In fact he became a little more worried when the other said she forgot her food. Mitsuo couldn't survive any part of the day without some sort of food in his stomach, so to hear that sounded like the worst tragedy to ever happen to somebody. Okay, he was certainly being very dramatic, but who could do anything without some sort of fuel?!

"No no it's okay!" he started, a hand up to wave it off dismissively. It really wasn't a big deal. But he paused, glancing over the (massive) spread that he had over his part of the table. He had a big appetite certainly, but he was also quite certain that he wouldn't be able to finish all of the food in front of him. He frowned a little at it - before a determined look settled on his face, and he looked back at the second-year next to him with a big of a (hopefully) comforting smile. "If you'd like, you can have some of mine! I...kind of bought way too much," he said, laughing sheepishly.

Without even waiting for her to reply, he slid the curry rice a little closer to her. "It's good! Or at least, it looks and smells good - I haven't tried it myself yet. I was wondering how to eat it all when you showed up!" He laughed, trying to make it seem like it was no big deal.

"Um-" She was...unsure. Sure, he seemed like a nice person and even seemed concerned, offering his food and everything, but she wasn't really sure if she could just take it, not if he had paid for it himself. "Are you sure?" She didn't sit down again, not just yet. She just felt like it would be a little rude to just except taking somebodies food so easily. Minji almost blushed as her stomach rumbled, but as usual her face stayed its blank mask. She'd have laughed if she didn't think it would have made the situation even more awkward. 

Rolling her eyes at herself she let herself sit down again. She was being stupid, if he was offering food she should just take it. It would probably be way more rude to just keep saying no. Her parents had implanted a decent amount of manners in the skater girl - even if she didn't show it all that often. The food did smell good - she'd seen the curry when she'd been stood in the line and had even been thinking about buying some herself until she'd realized that she couldn't. 

She thought - for a moment she'd been lucky - but nope. Vaii had flown down onto the table and was staring up at the boy in what Minji could only assume was awe. She let out a small sigh before turning her attention to the boy again - a small smile on her face, hopefully it was actually a noticeable change. "If you're sure - I'm very grateful." She ducked her head a little, a touch nervous about just...taking food from another person. It didn't seem that nice to do it - not considering he'd seemed so excited about his own food.

[Mitsuo Takahashi]

"Yes, I'm totally sure!" the freckled boy said, flashing a grin back at the girl. He was about to open his mouth to reassure the other - until the growl of a hungry stomach reached his ears. For a moment, he blinked in a blank manner; till he let out a chuckle and it soon transitioned into full out laughter. "I-I'm sorry!" he cried between peals of laughter. "It was just - really funny!" he said in his mirth. B-besides," he struggled to say, taking a breath as he tried to calm down. "Like I said earlier, I bought way too much. I mean I have a large appetite but-" he took one more glance at the food laid out in front of him before looking back at the dark-haired girl. "-even this is way too much for me." He gave her yet another toothy grin, hoping the girl would at least take up on his offer.

And he couldn't help but smile at her once again when the student sat back down; although she didn't voice it out, Mitsuo had taken it as the girl's non-verbal way of saying 'yes'. Beaming at her answer, he was about to take a bite out of his pork cutlets - before realising that they hadn't decided how to share it yet. She was a girl so it would be just weird to eat out of the same plate, right? At least even if the other didn't find it strange, Mitsuo wasn't entirely comfortable with that particular part. "Wait just a second-" he said, pulling his chair back and rushing towards the kitchen counter. He was soon back with another plate, though empty this time, and some cutlery, setting it down in front of her. "Here, I'll sit across from you, so that it'll be easier to share." Without a moment's hesitation, he pulled the rest of the food towards them, so that they were now in the middle of the table, for Minji's easy reach.

Pulling the other chair back, he sat across from her and was about to take an (actual) bite of his pork cutlets again - until he noticed something peculiar right in front of him. A tiny...fairy? fairy-like creature was definitely staring up at him. But though he hesitate only for a split second, he still didn't stop himself from biting into the meat. Probably just another visual hallucination. He rarely had those types for most of his hallucinations tended to be auditory and he had simply dismissed it as yet another mild symptom, easily acting as it wasn't there. It would go away sometime as he focused on his food, he mentally told himself. Instead, he simply relished in the taste of slightly salty savoury meat, and its crunchy batter. His mom's cooking was so good! "Oh hey, if you want some of my cutlets, I can give you some!" he said, grinning. "It's my mom's; and she cooks real well!"

The girl let out a snort of laughter of her own. Although - she really should have been embarrassed she couldn't really find it in herself to care too much. She was hungry and just the smell of the food around her was making it even worse.  So she offered him a small smile. "Dude - it's fine." She shook her head a little - making it clear she didn't mind the laughter at all. "It was pretty good timing." She shook her head a tiny bit again, she might have laughed had it been somebody else...or maybe not, but -"Even so -" She began, she really did need to thank him properly. "Really - thanks." She'd never really shared food with somebody before at least not in such normal circumstances. It was her fault for having been so absent minded enough to just sit down next to somebody she didn't even know. 

The girl blinked a little as the boy got up and walked away - not really sure where he was going. In the time he was gone, Minji had hooked her fingers around her troublesome little Guardian Character and tried to hide her away a little bit - sure he might not have been able to see her, but it would have been better for her to not even be around. Not all things considered. The girl got distracted the moment that the boy returned with another plate and set of cutlery. She - she hadn't thought about that at all. She supposed that might have had something to do with the fact she'd never even shared her food with her family members let alone with a complete stranger. 

Vaii had wriggled herself out of Minjis grip and had floated just out of the girls react - she was a little bothered by the girl. She'd thought that Minjis manners were at least a little better than she was currently showing. Although...she supposed the manners she'd had ground into her were way more attuned to something more like a fancy party than just to talking to a normal person. 
Minji blinked again as he moved everything on the table around - so that they'd both be able to reach things. She - she wouldn't have thought of that either. "Ah -" She made a slight sound of awe - a tiny one that would probably go unnoticed. Even after the last year she still hadn't become quite use to people actually being...nice to her. So it was still something she found very nice when it happened.

"Ah - you're mom made them?" She...didn't think she'd ever eaten anything her mom made, now that she took a second to think about it. The Fukui household was the kind that had to fend for themselves. But even so - she didn't really feel right just taking something his mom made for him. "I, thanks. But - your mom made that for you right? I'd feel bad taking it -"

"Oh wait -" Before she could finish eating, she had to introduce herself. "I'm Minji by the way." He should at least have her name considering she was basically stealing his food.

[Mitsuo Takahashi]

"No problem!" the freckled boy said, waving it away like it wasn't a big deal. Was she someone who was awkward at receiving acts of kindness like this? It felt that way to Mitsuo, with the way she seemed to want to keep thanking him. To him, it just felt like the right thing to do. Then again, he was someone who would eagerly share things whether the other asked him to or not, so maybe he was the odd one out here?

Mitsuo was very used to sharing food with others whether it was with family or friends; in fact, he was often the one that encouraged it. Before he moved to Otonoki, he always had a group of friends to hang out with and every time they went out for lunch together, they had a tendency to order different dishes from everyone else - and once the dishes arrived, they would all grab chopsticks or spoons and take a bite out of everyone else's food. Even with his family, his parents were very used to simply taking a piece of their own dish and plopping it straight onto Mitsuo's own, laughing at him whenever he gushed about the taste. It was a source of happiness for him; eating with friends or family and sharing food and just having a good time eating tasty food.

That is, before he became ill.

"Pssh," he made a dismissing sound at the girl's words. "My mom wouldn't mind; in fact, she likes it when I share with others!" Well actually his mom got a little embarrassed when he did that, but he just wanted everyone to know that her cooking was fantastic! And besides, they were sharing food anyway! Without a moment's hesitation, he stretched his arm out at Minji, as if egging her to take one of the pork cutlets. "Come on, just take one! It's really good, I promise!"

"Oh hello Minji!" he said, grinning back at her. "I'm Mitsuo! Takahashi Mitsuo! Nice to meet you!" He paused for a second, before he spoke up once again. "You have two pins on your shirt, right? Are you a second-year?"

Minji was not use to this kind of thing at all she was beginning to realise. The girl had thought that she'd been getting better at the whole talking to people and becoming friends things. But obviously not. Was she making it feel awkward? She really wasn't sure - although she didn't really feel like she cared all that heavily over that fact, she just didn't really do awkward all that much. 

"Hmm." She gave him a look that showed she clearly knew he was just egging her on and well, Minji wasn't exactly the best person to try to egg on. Sometimes it would work but other times she'd be able to ignore the act of it but as it was, considering he was sat right in front of her had her just - agreeing without really thinking about it. "Your mom is okay with you sharing food with strangers? I mean - I'll take if your really sure." She wouldn't say no again - and with her chopsticks reached over and nabbed one without much more of a pause.

It went on her plate followed by some of the curry. She...it probably wouldn't be to her level of spicy. Stuff served for everybody tended to be on the milder side so most people could enjoy it. Which Minji always found very disappointing but she also understood why it was done like that. 
The skater still really wished that she'd started taking her aunts advice from a while ago. Carrying kimichi around would really have made everything better for herself. She would have been able to spice it up a little bit without that much effort if she'd managed to do that. 

"It's nice to meet you too." She nodded her head a little bit - and without thinking about it she looked down at her own pins as if to just make sure that they were in fact there. "Uh yeah. Second year. Class 2-A." She indicated to his own pins. "You're a second year too right?" She...didn't think she'd ever seen him before. So she kind of assumed that he would be in a different class to her. 

[Mitsuo Takahashi]

" 'Course she is!" Mitsuo said brightly, still holding his lunchbox out for her to take some. "I do it all the time! And besides, it would be a waste not to share good food eh?" He didn't seem bothered at all by her look, only grinning back at it, shaking his bento box lightly as if trying to egg her on that way. He was delighted when she finally took one of the pork cutlets, drawing the box back towards himself and grabbed another cutlet to bite on. "Mmhmmm," was all he said; he really really love his mom's cooking.

He soon noticed that she had grabbed some of the curry and - after he went 'Oh right!' as if he had forgotten about it for a second - he placed his lunchbox down and reached over to spoon some of the curry into the bento box lid. That left the curry still on its own plate; at least if Minji wanted more, she could still take some. He didn't have a plate for himself, but honestly to him, so long as something could substitute it easily, he was going to use it! "Itadakimasu!" he said in a sing-song voice, before he ate a whole spoonful - and his eyes shone the moment it hit his tongue. "Ohmugosh thats sho good!" he soon said, his mouth obviously really full. Granted, some of the food outside made by seasoned chefs would probably taste better, but Mitsuo was just judging it by the level of school cafeteria food. And as long as it tasted good and didn't taste horribly paste-ty, he would eat it all.

The freckled boy nodded back at her in greeting once again, unable to say anything due to the food still in his mouth. But at the girl's answer, he blinked, before swallowing his food quickly. "Whooooa so you're one of the smarter kids!" Mitsuo remarked. "I'm in 2-C myself," he said, shrugging lightly. Grades didn't matter as greatly to him in comparison to others, but still he couldn't help but admire those who could work hard enough and study enough to get into the higher classes. "Studying ain't my thing; it's just way too suffocating to stay indoors and read all these stuffy boring textbooks," he gave a frown.

He bit off another chunk of pork cutlet. "Oh hey, quick question, are you in any clubs or anything?"

[Minji]

"Ah - " She supposed it really was a waste huh? If so much was brought and not eaten...she supposed it would be worse than anything else. The girl only ever really cooked for herself and made exact portions so it was rare that she ever actually had anything that she could share with anybody anyway. She shrugged a tiny bit to herself and took a bite out of the cutlet. She let out a quiet hum at the taste - it was good! She'd never really eaten anything like it before, considering she had no idea how to make anything like it. "Haaaa - it's really nice."

"Hm, its really nice yeah!" She let out a low breath, she'd have much preferred something at least a tiny bit spicier. Now that she thought about it - she pulled her bag into her lap and began rummaging through it. She might have had some hot sauce in there somewhere from the last time she'd gone to a Korean barbecue, which oddly enough was when her aunt had been around. She fumbled through the bottom of her bag and finally found a little sachet of the stuff. She might have another in there too - but one would do for the moment. She poured it into the curry without thinking too much about it and began eating again - and it was way better! Spiciness made everything better to Minjis scorched taste buds. 
She offered the boy a slightly amused look as he seemed to just - radiate happiness just eating food, even something as plain as school food was. 

"Ah - yeah I suppose?" While she knew she was smart - it really wasn't something she thought about. Not unless it actually came up in conversation. The entire school ranking thing wasn't something she wanted to think about either. She was just...naturally good at school so she just got good grades, apart from maths that is...she just really, really liked the subject and was even better at that than any of her other subjects. "2-C? That's not bad." And it wasn't - he could have been in a lower one. "Studying isn't really every bodies thing. But I prefer being outside doing stuff too." Which was true enough, she preferred being with her skateboard over most of her textbooks.

"Uh -" After his comment of 'stuffy boring textbooks' it felt a little weird to just mention math club - but really if he was asking she'd have to tell him what clubs she was actually in. "Track and Math."

[Mitsuo Takahashi]

"Right?!" Mitsuo said, his eyes shining. He loved sharing food, but more than that, he loved seeing other people's happy exclaims when they said the food was delicious. Especially when said food was his mom's. Granted, her response was less enthusiastic as others that he knew, but he didn't seem to mind it too much, biting into another cutlet of his own. For all he knew, maybe it wasn't to her taste, but that was a-okay to him; people all had different tastes to food after all. "I told my mom that it just isn't fair that no one else knew how good her cooking was aside from me and my sister, so I share it with everyone!" He flashed her a grin again.

He grabbed more of the curry on his makeshift plate - finishing it quickly without much of a pause at all. But when the other pulled out what appeared to be a bottle of hot sauce, all the freckled boy did was stare at it in disbelief. "Whoa," was what he said at first, staring at the red sacket in surprise. Granted, the curry wasn't terribly spicy at all, but he hadn't expected the second-year across from him would actually bring around a little spicy pick-me-up like that. But what surprised him even more was her simply pouring the whole sacket in - and he immediately went "Whoa!" in complete disbelief. Mitsuo's spice tolerance was moderate at best, and even then he wasn't someone who searched for spicy foods in general; so to see the girl just pour it straight in without a thought completely shocked him. "Holy crap, can you handle that?!" he said - before it was answered rather quickly by the girl's lack of response to the increased spice level. "Whoa!" he said again, before laughing at her. "I didn't take you for someone who could do that, but oh my god, are you okay?" he said, though it was clear there was a teasing tone to his voice.

"Oh you flatter me," the freckled boy joked, biting into the last of his pork cutlet. He ate fairly quickly, and honestly rarely knew his speed unless he was beside someone else who was slower than him. But he paused in his chewing halfway, only to stare at the second-year girl with a look of surprise. "Oh really?" he said laughing. He hadn't thought somebody in a smart class like 2-A to be interested in anything outside. "What kind of outside things do you do then?"

But he blinked at her answer, before he burst out laughing. Track and Math. Track and Math. Somehow it was incredibly funny to him that she was in something as nerdy as Math and, at the same time, in something as sportsy as Track. What rather completely opposite type of clubs. "Sorry I-I just didn't expect that! It's just that - most people I know tended not to be in things like that at the same time," he said between peals of laughter. Still, wasn't it the same with him too? After all, he liked to cook and he liked sports too; too rather opposing things for someone to like. "I'm sorry, I'll stop laughing soon - alright, just to make things fair, I'll tell you what's strange about me too; I like to cook and I like sports," he said with a grin.

[Minji]

Minji let out a small snort of laughter. "Wow - well I'm glad that you could share it with me then." She wasn't the best at expressing herself still and although she really really did think the cutlet was good it was just very difficult to actually show how much she actually did enjoy it. Minji wasn't exactly sure that it was good that Mitsuo was like sharing kind of against his mothers wishes but even so she was still rather glad that she got to try it at least. 

"Ah, what?" The girl quirked an eyebrow, she was slightly amused by the expression on his face. Minji...didn't even think it was that spicy. Just one sachet of hot sauce wasn't really that big a deal. Honestly she really didn't sense spice as well as most people so if she wanted something to actually be really spicy it would have taken like another three or four of the packets to make it good enough. Her lip quirked up a little and she spoke in her usual monotone way. "Dunno - I mean I burnt out my taste buds years ago." Which...was probably true actually, even if she was joking about it. Her aunt had probably actually helped the whole thing out. Korean food tended to be a lot spicier than Japanese food so she was kind of just overly use to the feeling of her tongue feeling like it was on fire and the tingling sensations. Her eyebrow rose a tiny bit again. "Didn't take me for somebody who could eat spice?" She was still also still joking, but she really wasn't sure that that would have come across that way. 

If Minji had really been the type to get offended she'd have certainly felt that way about his words. Could smart people not like being outside? She...didn't think she could think of a really smart person in her class who wasn't involved in some kind of sports club. She rolled her eyes slightly as she continued eating herself - she was a pretty fast eater herself, so it probably wouldn't make him realize he was eating quickly. "Well, track obviously. Then theres like skateboarding and parkour." There were a few other things maybe, but not enough to mention out loud. 

"Ah, wow. If I could be offended I would be." She was joking, obviously and maybe it would actually sound like it was out loud. Although she soon found herself grinning, it was totally fine really. She supposed they really were totally different things. It wasn't that surprising that he was laughing. "Cooking and sports? I mean...I know some other people who are similar to that." A few people in cooking club were like that right? Or at least they were until Takeos sports club was disbanded. "So thats not that weird." Or at least she didn't really think so, so it didn't really balance them out as well as he had probably thought it would have.

"Pffft!" was all Mitsuo said, before it turned into a slightly confused "Okay?" at the girl's words. What did she mean by that? Though actually, was it him, or was she somebody that didn't seem to express much emotion? To be honest, the monotonous tone in her voice caught him a little off-guard, but he soon perked up again, smiling brightly back at the second-year, as if he hadn't really noticed that. Till that is, she uttered her next sentence - and he blinked, a little puzzled at it, before his features turned into one of mild horror. Did he accidentally offend her or something? "Well, I mean--" he suddenly began, before realising he hadn't a good joke to turn it back to far more light-hearted terms. Mitsuo you absolute idiot, look at what you have done. "--Not specifically that you can't at all you know, but I admit I don't know many girls that could handle spice as much as you could. In fact, I don't even think I can handle that amount of hot sauce in that thing, and I've tried a fair amount of terribly spicy things myself!" Which was true to some degree; he often ended up tasting all kinds of things because he was curious about them - though the moment they exceeded his tolerance, he would never go back to them again, so it wasn't like he build up any tolerance whatsoever. He gave a bit of a sheepish laugh. Honestly, a part of him doubted that would be good enough.

Most of the people Mitsuo knew that were from the smarter classes only ever joined clubs out of necessity, not because they liked being in it. In some ways, it was a product of a highly competitive Asian society - the need to be brilliant all across the board, not just in studies, but in sports and extracurriculars as well. Thankfully enough, Mitsuo's parents cared less about perfect straight As or a perfect track record; they were simply happy with whatever the boy wanted to do, provided he at least passed his exams and graduated high school without much disciplinary problems. He nodded at first to her words about track - before completely pausing in his eating to stare at her. "Whoa!" he said, swallowing his food quickly. "Skateboarding and parkour?" he said, surprised. "That's way cool!" he said, his eyes shining at the prospect. He wasn't really somebody for stunts, so to hear someone else being able to do it was totally amazing to him. "I was going to say that I didn't think you were someone like that at first glance but then again," he popped a tamagoyaki into his mouth. "You have been proving me wrong this whole time, so joke's on me." He started to laugh.

"S-sorry!" he said once again, a hand raised as if in apology. He had thought that his reveal of his hobbies would surprise her, but it fell flat instead. He hadn't managed to balance it out as much as he wanted it to. "Um, can I appease you with the food I gave you?" he asked sheepishly. "Oh," he said, blinking a little in slight confusion at the girl's words. Maybe this school was made up of more well-rounded individuals than he thought? Still, it was a pleasant surprise to hear that; and he only gave her a beaming smile in return. "I'm a little surprised," he quipped, though it was more of a happy tone than surprise. "I mean, most people thought it weird whenever I told them," he laughed, taking a piece of tempura with his chopsticks. "They always think I spend most of my time outside! Well-" he suddenly paused, seemingly realising something. "--Then again, I am always outside." He started to laugh merrily again. "But sometimes I help mom make bentos too, and even spend my weekends cooking. Everybody thought it was strange, since they thought I was like this restless animal that couldn't stay indoors long enough to do that even." It was clear however that he didn't mind it at all, munching through his tempura without a care in the world. "--Which isn't exactly a wrong view of me either now that I think about it," he suddenly said, furrowing his eyebrows a little.

"Ah - " She held up a hand, trying to cut him off before he could actually apologize for what he'd said. "I'm sorry - that, that was me joking." She let out a faint huff - she should just stop trying to be funny right? She didn't think any joke she'd ever told out loud had ever been funny - most people had just thought she'd been being serious. Puns on twitter were obviously the only way for her to go. She returned his sheepish laugh with a slightly quirk of her lips. Obviously he'd missed the jokes entirely himself and she honestly felt a little bad about it. "Most people can't handle what I can - my aunt has 'trained' me to eat spicy well." Which was true enough - although when she'd been smaller she'd considered in a type of torture in its own right. "Spicy isn't just about 'trying' its just ignoring the burning pain until you can handle it." Wow - that sounded much worse out loud than it had in her head. She was beginning to realise most things sounded better in her head actually. 

Minji let out a small laugh at his reaction. It was nice that some people thought her hobbies were cool - she'd gotten so use to being told that she was being dangerous or having people worry about her. She supposed she could understand why that was so - but she'd only gotten stuck a a roof once or twice! And she totally hadn't been badly injured or anything! Ah - it was just so silly that people actually cared about her. "Ha - but yeah. Best not judge books by their covers huh?" She actually found herself smiling a little bit. "It's the same with a lot of people around here - so don't be too presumptuous yeah? Some people might actually get offended." It was basically impossible to offend the skater so he had no problem here, but a few other people in the school - well they might either get upset or angry. 

"Yeah - I think the food is like - appeasement enough." And it was - because she'd been more hungry that she'd even realised. She'd already finished all that had been on her plate. She wasn't really sure she needed to eat anymore though - not considering it wasn't like she'd be doing any actual exercise after it all. "I think...this school has quite a few people who have widely ranging clubs and hobbies and stuff." Or at least a few of the people she knew did at least. 
"I mean...if I'd known you better as somebody whose barely inside I might have found it a little more surprising?" And she probably would have - people who like being outside more had way more hobbies that actually involved being outside - but considering that this was the first time that they'd ever even met - then she really wouldn't have felt that way, right? 
The girl let out a small laugh at his words though. "Oh - ah I suppose we share a similar image then?" And she supposed they really did - when people usually met her it was first the parkouring / skater part they usually saw so when she told them about math club it could be little bit of a startling contrast.
