God, classes were so boring.

The school day had just started, but already the boy was finding it rather difficult to stay awake and listen to the class. Mitsuo had his book propped up on the table, doing his absolute best to stop himself from yawning as the teacher drone on and on. Sure, he was in a new school and that was in itself exciting in some way, but nothing in the world could make any of his classes any more interesting than they already were. Or was it uninteresting? Or less interesting? Well whatever, it wasn't like he was that great when it came to grammar and syntax or stuff like that.

He gave a bit of a sigh, propping his head on his elbows as he tried to stay awake. Honestly, he couldn't wait for the bell to ring. In fact, maybe today was the day he should try out the cafeteria food! His mom always packed lunch for him and while he loved everything she made, he still wanted to try out all the food there was! Who knows, maybe the school food was a lot better than his old one!

He was daydreaming again. Um.

Oh wait, where did the teacher go? He was sure that he was in front just a minute ago! He looked around, trying to see where he was. Wait, was he approaching a student...?


Yukiya

[Yukiya]

Yuki was totally concentrated on school!

Okay, of course not. English was so complicated, he ended up just playing with his phone. And his dad kept texting him. Wasn't he supposed to be working? It's not like there was any other cooks at the restaurant besides him. After a while, he kept getting so many notifications that he finally checked his messages.

But it was the best thing ever. Beetle Knight Force Hero Show was coming to the next city? The actors from the show were coming? Would he go? Hell yeah he would go! When was the last time he and his dad watched their favorite sentai heroes fight? The coordination! The funky villain costumes! The explosions! And one of the actors was coming too! His dad even posted a picture of the giant robot the knights made at the end of every show...wait, did they actually make the combination robot on stage! Sentai had come a long way from...

"Minamoto. How do you conjugate the verb 'to run' in English?"

He froze. The teacher's eyes were right on his phone.

"W-What. Uh...run...ran...ru?" he stuttered. He tried to hide the phone, but the teacher held out his hand. A few people laughed, but he could see all of them quickly hiding their own phones too.

"Hold up, can I just--"

"You can get your phone later, after class. I just wish you'd be like your sister, you know? You're twins right?"

"Hey, just because we're twins doesn't mean we're the same level of intelligence--"

"I mean, she actually focuses and participates in class," he said, grabbing the phone out of Yuki's hands. "You can be on the same level of effort, at least."

He tried to grab it back, but the teacher was much faster than he anticipated. Did he not understand? No one in this school knew he was still into sentai. No one was supposed to ever know that outside of his family! He even dressed up like a hobo when he bought anime and stuff! Why didn't this teacher understand? He had a reputation to protect!

He just put his head in his hands after. He just hoped that no one else would look. The teacher wouldn't spill to other people, right? Maybe the other teachers? 'Look, this kid still watches this stuff when he's in high school' Oh god. It was a guilty pleasure, okay?

[Mitsuo Takahashi]

Oh man. Mitsuo could only pull a grimace as the teacher walked over to what seemed to a hunched-up student. The boy could only guess from where he was, but basing on the other's posture and the way the teacher was looking at him, he was probably on his phone. Honestly Mitsuo couldn't blame him; English class was absolutely terrible - but that was besides the point right now. He instinctively tried to make himself seem smaller as the teacher passed by, as if he was sure that the teacher would immediately reprimand him for yawning in class or something amongst those lines.

He glanced back at the poor boy. Mitsuo was far too new to really know who was who in the year, and except for those that really stick out, everyone was just a blur of dark-haired students and common Japanese names. Well, common enough. Not like he was any good at remembering names either. Mitsuo shot a sympathetic look at other student, hoping that would comfort him at least. He may not know him, but maybe he would feel a little better knowing that someone understood his plight?

Oh finally the bell rang. Thank god it was the lesson just before the lunch hour.

As the students hustled and bustled around, either rushing out grabbing food, or rummaging through their own backpacks for their homemade lunches, Mitsuo simply sat there, slowly reorganising his things. Should he go down to the cafeteria, or eat back at the classroom? After all, his mother already made lunch for him, and though he was daydreaming of school food earlier, it was still rather rude not to eat his own parent's cooking. Though, he couldn't help but thought about how the student reacted during English class. After all, who wouldn't be sad to see their own phone being taken away? ...Well actually, said student looked more panicky than sad but still.

Maybe he should ask if he were okay?

Glancing over at said student, he seemed to ponder for just a second, before he finally plucked up the courage to walk over, smiling a little. "Hey," he began, giving a half-wave. "Tough luck huh?"

[Yukiya]

The rest of class, Yuki was in a daze. He could barely concentrate on what the teacher was saying, only the fact his phone was with his teacher and he had to make sure no one else got it. Thankfully the rest of the class was bored out of their minds and not really concentrated on the phone. When the bell finally rang, he nearly jumped out of his seat, grabbed his stuff, and was all about ready to go. Except there were too many kids in front of him rushing toward the door. He just sat back down and waited for them to pass by, hoping to get his phone without any trouble.

But then someone had to walk up to him.

"H-Huh?" he asked. He turned to see the new kid that just transferred into his class a few days ago. "...oh. Yeah. Um, if you excuse me, I gotta--"

He paused. The teacher. Where'd he go? Wasn't he supposed to pick up the phone? Was it still in the drawer? He went outside and checked the hallways, but there was only students everywhere. In the end, he just went back into the classroom. Unfortunately, that new guy was still there. How could he hide his shame?

"...uh..." he ended up saying, trying to think of a way to get him out of here, nicely. "You don't have to worry about me. I'm sure you're hungry."

[Mitsuo Takahashi]

"Oh uh--" Mitsuo stared in a puzzled manner as the boy suddenly took off, holding up a half-wave as if trying to wave him goodbye. Well, maybe he had other things to do. After all, he kind of just walked up to him all of a sudden without even knowing him in any shape or form. Walking back to his table, he rummaged though his school bag, before finally producing his lunchbox. Ahhh food! It was one of those things in life that easily lifted his spirits, no matter what happened.

He was about to open it when the boy had returned - and he blinked back at him. Gosh, was he okay? "Hey," he began, walking up to him. A hand was still holding his lunchbox, though it wasn't clear if Mitsuo himself realised that he brought it along. "You sure you're okay? You looked rather panicky." He gave a sheepish smile - but he paused at the other's words. "Oh um." It was only then that he noticed that the bento box in his hand. "It's alright, I brought food, and I eat pretty quick." He flashed him a grin.

"What about you though?" he asked again, concerned. "Oh, did you get your phone back?"

[Yukiya]

"Huh? Oh. No. I couldn't find him. I'm waiting for the students to get to the cafeteria before I sprint into the teacher's lounge and beg him for ..I mean, I...I can wait. I-It's just a phone!" he said, although right after he just hid his face on the desk. Just then, a miracle of miracles happened - the teacher came right back!

"Minamoto, Takahashi. What are you two doing here?" asked the teacher, as if he forgot what happened.

"S-Sensei! My phone!" he shouted, "You said I could get it back after class?"

"Oh. I meant after school. I was just so irritated I said the wrong word," he said, smirking at them, "Will you finally start paying attention in my class now?"

"I make no promises!" he exclaimed, but the teacher just walked out, and Mitsuo was not spared the sight of Yuki running after the teacher like a cartoon character. Soon enough the two were back, and Yuki was on his knees in front the teacher.

"Okay, I'm sorry, I'll really pay attention, you don't understand, please just give me the phone back..."

The teacher sighed and shook his head. "I'm not sure," he said, when he looked back at Mitsuo. "Oh. Wait, I thought of something. Why don't you...show him around? He is new, after all," he said, "You could do at least one good thing today. If you do that, I'll give you your phone back."

Yuki got up, almost hugging the man. "Thank you! Thank you so much!"

"...after school."

And the teacher left them without a word. Yuki could almost feel wind passing by as he sat back on the floor in silence. But after a while he just shrugged it off and went toward the new guy, Even if it was because a teacher asked him, he didn't mind making friends. He noticed he had a lack of guy friends...ever since Shun left without a word.

"...well. We got a whole lunch to get to know each other, so," he said, "I'm Minamoto Yukiya. Nice to meet you formally...I guess?"

He just deeply sighed after. But well, he was new, and he was nice enough to ask how he was doing after the teacher took his phone. "Feel free to ask me any questions?"

[Mitsuo Takahashi]

Mitsuo simply stared at him as he stammered, a confused expression upon his freckled features. The guy in front of him seemed rather...panicky to say the least. Okay, scratch that, he was rather panicky. But trying his best not to seem like he was. He wanted to say something - but the teacher came right back to the class. All Mitsuo did was stare at the scene, blinking in confusion as the student pleaded with the teacher about his phone. And - oh wow the boy must be really desperate for his phone; he couldn't believe he was on his knees begging the teacher.

But when the adult suddenly pointed at him, Mitsuo jerked - before he looked around at first, wondering if he was gesturing at another student - until he realised that there was no one else left in the classroom. He gestured at himself with a wordlessly puzzled 'Me?', staring back at the teacher in a bewildered manner.

As the teacher walked away, he left them in total silence, and Mitsuo honestly wasn't quite sure what to do. Maybe he should uh comfort him a little? The freckled boy sent the poor boy an apologetic but also sympathetic look. A kind that said 'I'm sorry that you had to do this and that I can totally understand the feeling'. Walking towards him, the boy simply nodded at the other's introduction. "Nice to meet you too Yukiya. I'm Takahashi Mitsuo. Just call me Mitsuo; it's easier to say," he started, scratching his cheek a little. "Sorry that you had to get stuck with me," he said, laughing awkwardly. "I'm sure you'll get your phone back though! I don't think he's...that mean." Or maybe he was, Mitsuo wasn't sure - he was just trying to lift the atmosphere.

"Um..." the boy paused at the other's suggestion, before he lifted his own lunchbox. "Why don't we get lunch first? You can tell me all about Seiyo while we do."

[Yukiya]

He was calming down a little. The teacher - he wouldn't show others, right? When he thought about it, he didn't seem the type to do that. As long as nothing was seen on his phone, he could live. Although he would miss checking Twitter, and he might pass out later, but besides that he would be fine, and...

"Oh," he said. The other guy just introduced himself. He just smiled. "Mitsuo, huh? Nah, you're fine. You seem like a good guy that got caught up in my mess. And...I hope so," he said. He sighed deeply. "He just seems strict, not terrible."

Still, he wanted to make sure he would be safe.

"Huh, lunch? Oh..." he paused, checking his bag for lunch, but it looks like he didn't pack any. "...guess I gotta head to the cafeteria."

He stretched his arms and got up. He didn't want it to be awkward for the new guy, so he waited until Mitsuo caught up to him as they got outside. "So, uh, what brings you to Seiyo? If you don't mind?"

[Mitsuo Takahashi]

Mitsuo could only give him a sympathetic look at his words. He wasn't sure how exactly to comment on the teacher's demeanor, for he really had only recently transferred; so the look should suffice, he hoped. There wasn't much that they could do at this point - but hey, looking at the positive, the teacher did say that he would return his phone after school! "I'm sure it'll be fine," he offered, hoping it would reassure him.

He waited the other to get up, before following him down towards the cafeteria. "Oh uh me?" he said, pointing at himself at his question. "Well uh--" He paused, a bit of a troubled look on his face. He couldn't really tell him the real reason he transferred to Seiyo. It brought...a lot of unpleasant memories; memories he wished that didn't exist. So all he did was smile back at him, hoping his answer will just be enough. "My dad found a new job in Otonoki and my parents had always wanted to live in a quieter town, so we quickly moved here," he said, smiling. It was truth enough.

He searched for another topic to switch it too - and remembered that they were walking down to the school's eatery. The cafeteria though! He wanted to know all about it! "Speaking of the cafeteria," he began. "What sort of food do they usually serve? Is it good?"

[Yukiya]

"I really hope so," he said. If he didn't, he would rage until the highest heaven - or well, he would just wait outside the office until the teacher would give him his phone back. He was half-listening to the boy explain what brought him here, and it sounded pretty normal. "Heh, well, I don't think it's actually that quiet. But I wouldn't want you to move again." And anyway, it was quiet as long as eggs weren't involved.

"Huh, the cafeteria? Um, the usual. Ramen, salad, sometimes they throw in a pork cutlet on a good day. It's pretty standard. I'd prefer my dad's stuff, honestly," he said, "But I think that's what I get for living with a restaurant chef. But for quick meals it's pretty okay."

He kept looking around for any signs of the teacher, but he really must've retired to his office. And he wasn't gonna sneak in there...unless he really had to.

[Mitsuo Takahashi]

"Well it's a bit quieter than where I'm form!" he said, laughing, as he followed after Yukiya. It was true to some degree; there were more events, more performances and more...generally more things happening back home. He always followed after friends whenever they wanted to hang out at those places, even taking the train to the town to do so. "Definitely," he said with a sigh. "Moving once enough was difficult; I'll rather not do it again."

The freckled boy nodded at every word the other spoke, still with a smile on his face - but his smile suddenly dropped, to be replaced by an expression of surprise. Wait, did he hear that right? "A restaurant chef?" he said, completely shocked, yet it was clear it wasn't one of disgust, but one of excitement. His eyes were wide and sparkling as he drew close to the other student. "Your dad's a chef?! Really?! What does he cook?! Do you really, actually live in a restaurant or something? Can I go there?" He was uncomfortably close, talking a mile a minute, without even waiting for the other to answer.

[Yukiya]

"Sounds like you came from a big city," he replied, "But yeah, if you know where to look, you'll find something. There's an aquarium, concerts pretty much all the time, and good restaurants. And hopefully you'll like the people here. And cute girls. There's cute girls too," he happily added. It was one of the few things that made him happy, other than shonen manga and sentai shows...oh, and right, he might be exposed as their fan if he wasn't careful.

He was thrown back by his sudden excitement and how really close this kid was once he mentioned food."Whoa, whoa. One thing at a time," he said, laughing. It was nice though, to see someone around him who was this happy. "First, my dad runs an Okinawan style restaurant, since he lived there as a child before moving to Otonoki. Yes, we do live right above the restaurant. And, uh, sure? Hope you like pork, it's kind of what we're known for..." he said, "...kind of wish dad would hire another cook, though. He's getting old."

Soon enough, they finally were at the cafeteria. And no, he didn't see the teacher. "Oh, but there is pork cutlet today! You're lucky, new guy." He lined up, thinking Mitsuo would follow...

[Mitsuo Takahashi]

Mitsuo took a moment to ponder on his answer. "Kind of?" he said, tilting his head to the side. It was certainly livelier, or at least that was what the freckled boy liked to think. He nodded in acknowledgement at every single word Yukiya said - before his eyes sparkled slightly at the mention of restaurants. "I haven't been around much in town yet, so I hadn't tasted much of the food here in Otonoki!" he grinned before laughing at the other's comment. "Cute girls huh?" he repeated, nodding, though it didn't seem like he was as interested in them than he was in food. "Are you like a chick magnet or something?" he joked.

"Okinawan style restaurant!" the boy repeated ever so eagerly. He had never heard of that before! Or well, the most he heard was that it was different from much of mainland Japanese cuisine but still, it wasn't something he had ever really tried. In fact, his eyes shone even more at the mention of pork. "I'm totally good with pork!" he said, grinning as he walked alongside Yuki. He loved anything with meat, be it pork or beef or - actually he liked all proteins, but he still liked heavy meats better. "Oh," was his response at first to the boy's comment, furrowing his eyebrows in thought. "Wahh, if that's the case, then I better hurry before he retires or something!"

"Pork cutlet?!" he cried excitedly - and immediately walked quickly so as to line up behind Yukiya. He still had his lunch box from his mother, which he was sure was full of her usual delicious dishes; but he simply couldn't pass up the opportunity to try the cafeteria's own pork cutlets! "One of those for me please!" he said, pointing at the plate eagerly. His eyes shone as the server behind the counter placed the cutlets on his tray and - after paying for them - immediately found himself an empty sport for him and Yukiya, sitting down on the seat immediately. "Itadakimasu!" he said, grabbing one with his chopsticks and taking a huge bite out of it. "Mmhmm it's good!"

[Yukiya]

"Cute girls are one of the better perks of Otonoki," he said, nodding vigorously, "But yeah, downtown has good food. ...as for a chick magnet...well, let's just say I'm better off observing them from far away." Because he'd get hit for sure, or ignored...

But then you had this guy assaulting his ears. "Huh, have you had any? I thought in a bigger city there'd be at least one Okinawan restaurant." Man, this guy really liked food, huh? Did he exercise too? The more he heard this guy, the more he thought he was listening to a younger version of his dad. ...how did his mom take this much energy back in the day, he wondered. "Oh, yeah, sure. He'd really like more younger kids to come in the restaurant. Well, any one really would be fine. It's not gonna close down, but it could do better."

Soon after Mitsuo took his cutlet, Yuki got one himself. It looked kind of dry, but edible enough to fill his stomach. He was surprised that, before he even sat down, the guy ate a big chunk of the cutlet already. "...wow. Uh." he ended up saying before eating his own cutlet.

Across from them, the English teacher seemed to talking to a woman teacher, holding Yuki's beloved cellphone in his hand. Another student ran outside the cafeteria and suddenly the cellphone was in the other teacher's hands...

[Mitsuo Takahashi]

"Pffft!" Mitsuo couldn't help but laugh at the second-year. "Guess it's difficult to get a girl huh?" he teased, elbowing him in the ribs. Not that Mitsuo would know. He was far too enticed by food to really care much about girls.

"Well-" the freckled boy furrowed his eyebrows a little, tilting his head to side as he tried to recall. Was there any Okinawan restaurants where he lived? "I don't remember seeing one. And besides, who knows if they're authentic - your dad lived there, so his food must have some authenticity to it!" he said, his eyes shining. He pumped a fist into the air. "I'll totally come!" he said. "Oh, if your dad could cook, what about you?" he asked, tilting his head in query. "You must have some mad skills huh, with a dad like that!"

Mitsuo didn't care that it was kind of dry; it still tasted decent, and that was good enough for him! Besides, how much could you hope for when it's the school cafeteria? Oh wait, he shouldn't just be eating pork cutlets! Taking out his own lunchbox, he soon peeled off the lid. It was fried chicken today! Along with tamagoyaki, stewed vegetables, potato salad and some slices of apple. "Oh hey!" He pushed his lunchbox towards Yukiya. "If you want to try some, go ahead! It's my mom's cooking and it's really good!" He grinned back at the second-year.

"Hmm?" Mitsuo stared behind Yukiya. Oh, wasn't that their English teacher from class? And...he was holding a phone? Wait what was going on, was he passing the phone around? "Hey um...is that your phone...?" the freckled boy asked, pointing behind the other boy. He could only hope it actually wasn't, because if teachers were passing it around, it didn't sound like a good thing.
