A letter was the last thing Daichi expected from anyone, much less an invitation from the Guardians of all things. He wasn't sure how to feel about it. Resting off to the side of his notebook sat the cream colored envelope with his name written on it. The contents already opened and glance through before being carefully put back into its holder. It sat there now and he stared at it. His mind wondered, Why did they pick him? Or rather what on earth were they thinking? Daichi wasn't- he was just normal kid. he didn't do anything notable; He hadn't done anything ‘amazing’. So why?-
He was an average kid. He could list dozens of people better than him, people who would do a better job than him. Other students, who could take up the title of ‘Guardian’ and do it justice. It confused him to no end, why him? Maybe it was a mistake? He knew it was a extremely slim chance of that actually being the case. Daichi rested his cheek in his palm and closed his eyes with a sigh. Class was going on sure, but it was literature. Daichi never really had to give this class to much attention, it was a pretty easy class. He did have high marks in after all; Not paying attention for one period (wondering how the hell he got a invitation from the Guardians) wouldn't kill him.
Taiki meanwhile was sitting down on Daichi’s notebook reading over his notes and tweaking them with the white pen he kept behind his ear. Steadily writing in purple ink in his smallish writing. He wrote down things Daichi missed or, little phrase to help him remember a certain words or information. Being helpful like he always was. Opening his eyes he peered at Taiki. What did he think about all this? He hadn’t said a word since the letter arrived and since it was opened. It was weird, it wasn't like Taiki at all. The little hero was always grinning, sharing his thoughts on things, speaking freely but now he just worked quietly on Daichi’s notes.
In his free hand he held his pen and he tapped next to Taiki twice. Taiki looked up at him with a smile. “ What’s up?” He asked. Daichi nudged him to the side with his pen. Mr.Determination took the hint jumped off the notebook and into the air. Daichi turned to a new page, free of any marking and began to write. ‘ What do you think about this?’ Aside the text he drew an arrow to the letter. Taiki floated back down to the notebook and sat down as he read. “ I think it's a good opportunity.” Taiki stated simply meeting Daichi’s eyes with strange purple ones. (It was often they used this wordless communication during school, using Daichi’s notebooks or his phone to talk to one another.) ‘ Explain.’ Daichi scrawled.
An unmistakable sparkle maybe itself apparent in Taiki’s eyes as he grinned up at Daichi. Maybe that's what he was waiting for the whole time. Just for Daichi to ask. “ I think it would be good for you! You can meet people, friends-” Taiki stood up with his hands behind his head. “ The Guardians are people, other students look up to. They protect their friends and students and they get really cool capes too! Of course I think you should join! You can learn from them! You’ll be able to offer help to those who need it! I believe whole-heartedly you would make a great Guardian, Daichi!! And that we could do a lot of good for a lot of people! Bring a little light to their lives! ”
Daichi was a bit taken back at his would be self’s little, uh- Speech- Of sorts. Every word that was spoken was so clear and confident. He didn’t think he could turn down the guardian position now; If Taiki- the person he wanted to be; His would be self- Believed in him, this much, then didn't that mean he believe, he should- that deep down he really wanted to do it too? Maybe it was the nerves that swirled in his chest after Taiki spoke or maybe it was a feeling of pride? No, not exactly that-“ They didn't have to pick us. “ Taiki started again, “ But they did. That means something- it counts for something. Maybe they noticed something about us that we haven’t just yet.” He said thoughtfully. “ I’m eager to find out what that is- If it is anything. I don’t think there's any drawback to joining. So, why not give it a shot, and see where this will take us, right Dee-dee? “
‘ Right. Let’s try it.’ He wrote, with a small smile on his face.
As soon as classes ended for the day, Daichi gathered his things and set off toward the planetarium. On his way there he found his steps were a little faster than normal, and full of purpose. Taiki watched him carefully, Every now and then giving words of encouragement. He managed to get through the doors and into the lobby but then whatever confidence he had diminished when faced with the last door. Fuck doubt, and fuck the nerves that started eating away at him. What if i was a mistake? What if he wasn't going to be good enough? What if he failed at-“ We can do this, D. “ Taiki said quietly, standing on his shoulder. “ Heroes are made of strong stuff, Don’t worry.’’ Daichi nodded slightly. Taking a breath he opened the door and walked inside the room. “ Hey, Anyone here?” He called out.
